(2017, Fall - “Forest Shadows” ) Gareth King is a photo journalist who specializes in black and white photography. He grew up in a village in rural Perthshire, Scotland. His journey into photography began 15 years ago when his curiosity and wanderlust led him to travel for work on farms filled with other likewise adventurers from around the world. It was amidst a conversation with a fellow traveler that he revealed that the main difference between travel and home was "the clouds". To explore what this meant, Gareth began photographing the clouds as a way of trying to see things from the eyes of others. Today, Gareth uses photography as empathy to document and explore the world.
"The Other Side"
(Black & white images on metallic paper.)
An environmental photography study exploring places significant to the artist 's youth. Eerie forest images are representative of spirits, perhaps in limbo looking back into our dimension, unable to communicate with our side.
The series of images were taken at Kinnoull Hill in Perth, a notorious suicide spot.
A private series of images will be on display at Cumulus Project Space, KC, MO on August 4th, 2017.
